Melisandre dies in Game of Thrones after final Winterfell battle

The third episode of season 8, "The Long Night" lasted for one hour. It was an episode that is purely bloodshed. The Night King along with his allies White walkers and the Army of the dead came to the Winterfell and slaughtered all of the humans who were present there to stop them.

Melisandre with her magic helps to light swords of Dothraki warriors and help in their fight against the Army of the dead. She also helps to fire up the trenches with her spell for defending the castle.

Once Melisandre has told Arya looking at her eyes that she sees a darkness in Arya. She also says Arya that they will meet again. It is Melisandre in the end who sends Arya to her destiny, the destiny of killing Night King.

Melisandre Joins the Lord of Light after her purpose fulfilled

Melisandre after the battle walks past the Winterfell walls into the snow, lose her magical choker and dies. Why did she die ? She lived all these years to fulfill the destiny of helping the Promised Prince who is believed to end the darkness i.e kill the Night King. She plays her part, leaves her magical choker and embraces death. Why leave magical choker? here is the reason Melisandre is described as a character  a servant of the Lord of Light and is centuries old. She maintains her youthfulness with magic.

As she removes her magical chokers she loses her youthfulness and turns to a centuries old wrinkled woman. It is 'Carice van Houten' who played the Melisandre character.

She predicts her death after Winterfell battle

She in season seven reveals to Ser Davos that she would die the day she reaches Winterfell. She also once mentions(in the third episode of season 7) to Varys that she would return one more time to Westeros to die.

The Red woman dies after her fulfilling the purpose of the helping the living in the battle against the darkness.
